At the ITS World Congress 2019 in Singapore, Drive Sweden hosted an event to showcase projects and collaborations. Carmenta presented the Autonomous Driving Aware project together with project partner Volvo Cars Corporation. The sold out event gave the audience the possibility to see demos of the system for different of operator perspectives as well as having in-depth discussions.
The project has proven the strategic advantages of a central traffic monitoring function that autonomously supervise and advice vehicles on how to avoid unwanted traffic situations. The advice is based on the vehicle routes versus a real-time updated traffic situation. A function like this can warn vehicles minutes in advance of driving into an undesired situation. The warning time gives the vehicles the possibly to act early and by that increase safety as well as making the vehicle act smart and smooth and by this creating trust in the transport system.
Mikael Gråsjö, Director Product Management at Carmenta, says: “The robustness and autonomous operation of the system is crucial to support connected and autonomous vehicles to see beyond their sensors. Our product Carmenta TrafficWatch have benefitted a lot from the project and input from its partners: Volvo Cars, CEVT and Ericsson.”
Drive Sweden is a Swedish cross-functional collaboration platform to drive the development towards sustainable mobility solutions for people and goods. Together, we develop and demonstrate connected, automated and shared transport system solutions. The project is co-funded by Vinnova, the Swedish government agency that administers state funding for research and development. The agency’s mission as defined by the government is to promote development of efficient and innovative Swedish systems within the areas of technology, transportation, communication and labor.
